Set Us Free
There are many authoritarian voices competing for our attention, demanding for us to follow them if we want to be in the in crowd along with the other "righteous" followers. However, no one in this world deserves that type of devotion and unquestioned trust and loyalty: not our sports heroes, not our politicians, not our humanists, not our scientists, and certainly not our pastors. The only one deserving is Jesus.
Unlike the authoritarian voices, Jesus does not oppress us, but sets us free. Jesus is not interested in what we can give him, but what he can give us. Jesus does not use his authority over us to demand a particular outcome that is beneficial to him and his cause, but blesses us so that we can fulfill our potential. This Jesus just wants to love us and protect us, and does not demand our lives for his cause. On the contrary, he is the one who gives his life so that we do not have to.
